Why should you regularly take a vacation?

I could be red
Or I could be yellow
I could be blue
Or I could be purple
I could be green
Or pink or black or white
I could be every color you like

For a lot of people, the years spent in school are the happier times over the years spent working in a full-time paid position. I always attributed the proximity to my friends and family as the reason for this happiness. Very recently, I realized another factor that made those years worthwhile. After every semester there was a break, for at least a month. The post-examination vacations were a huge relief. Traveling back to family and spending an entire month reconnecting with your parents, extended family, childhood friends and just living in the house you were brought up in was a shot of rejuvenation. I was a student for the rest of 11 months of the year, but that one month I could be a friend, child, sibling, tourist, dancer, photographer, a kid in the park, a hopeless romantic, avid reader, old student for a teacher or anything else that I wanted. I remember dancing in the rains, making new friends, exploring my hometown with my old and new friends, watching all the romantic movies available for free to watch on the internet, reading all the Harry Potter Books at once, doing an Internship, riding a bike and falling on the first slope in the route, traveling solo to a different city to be with friends, going to a water park on a weekday and so much more.

I got a chance to take a substantial break from work and within the first week I could resonate with the words: “I could be every color I like”.

To be fair, I could be anything I like on any day or any year, I just forgot that with the responsibilities of paying rent and bills. Every vacation grows you in one way or another and on this vacation, I learned the value of vacations. Take a vacation, rejuvenate yourself, forget who you are to find what else you are and what all you can be. You will end up going back to your normal life but a part of you would have changed and little by little you will change to become who you always wanted to be.

Every time you debate whether you need a vacation or not, try to remember a similar experience from your life, you will know your answer. Take a break and make it count. You don’t have to lead the same life forever, you can be anything you hope for.
